“Tempus” is an EU program that is aimed at supporting the reform and modernisation of higher education in partner countries. It is also one of the oldest and most successful programs of international cooperation in higher education.
Tempus project – Equal access for all (EQUI-ED): Strengthening the social dimension for stronger European higher education area –is managed by the University of Niš, and it is implemented by five Serbian universities, four universities from the EU, in partnership with three student associations and the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia and with the support by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.
Project objective
Establishing structural measures to enhance the chances for young people from underrepresented groups to attain higher education at the universities in Serbia. Equal access to higher education is expected to ensure better chances in access to labour market and it represents a major tool in order to decrease poverty and social exclusion. The project is aimed at increasing chances for the Serbian young people to enter and remain in higher education, especially for Roma people, persons with disabilities, rural population, and young people from lower education families and from other underrepresented groups.
Specific objectives of the project
- Increasing the number and extend implication of existing government measures (as well as the legal framework for their implementation) aimed at ensuring equal chances for all groups of students.
- Establishing and institutionalise the practice of data collection and analysis in the domain of social dimension of higher education, both at the system and institutional level.
- Establishing a service network for supporting actual and potential students at the universities in Serbia.
- Enhance the legal framework for diversifying and enlarging the student body who are entering and completing higher education.
