Data on primary education statistics are obtained from the database of Ministry of Education – the Register of the Unified Information System of Education (JISP). The data for the end of the school year reflects the status as of September 30, while the data for the beginning of the school year reflects the status as of December 20, 2025. Any changes made to the JISP database after these dates are not included in the data published by the Statistical Office.
According to data from the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year in the Republic of Serbia, a total of 507 315 students attended primary education: 498 581 in regular schools, 3,699 in schools for children with developmental disabilities and 5,035 in adult education schools.
The first cycle of regular primary education (grades 1 - 4) was attended by 249 932 students, while the second cycle (grades 5 - 8) was attended by 248 649 students. In this school year, 61 326 first-year students were enrolled in regular schools.
At the end of the 2024/2025 school year in the Republic of Serbia, a total of 499 386 regular students attended classes. A total of 63 240 students completed the first cycle of primary education (4th grade), while 61 863 students completed the complete primary school (8th grade).
