The Centre of Excellence on Data warehousing (CoE DWH) is a network of experts from the ESS Member States' National Statistical Institutes that regularly meet to discuss and exchange information on new developments in the field of Data warehousing and to exchange good practice and advice on existing work and knowledge on Data warehousing within the ESS.

The Statistical Office of Serbia (SORS) has designed and developed IST, a generic software tool on Microsoft development tools for data processing and validation. The integrated metadriven IST system was developed to simplify the job of the end-user and to reduce the funds required for specialized software and the number of IT experts.

Both parties showed a lot of interest in each other's developments and wished to exchange their knowledge and expertise in a more in-depth way with a view to receive mutual feedback and improve.

In this context the idea arose to organize a workshop in which all enlargement beneficiaries could participate to learn from the developments in the ESS and SORS and to exchange knowledge and expertise in the field of Data warehousing.

The workshop was held in Belgrade, in SORS premises and with participation of all enlargement countries. Presentation was prepared by Antonio Laureti Palma (ISTAT), Tauno Tamm (Estonian statistics), Mira Nikić (SORS) and Ms. Ljupka Tasevska (State Statistical Office of the Republic of Macedonia).

The workshop was interactive, where the theory was mixed with group discussions on recent and planned developments, as well as needs.

The objective of the workshop was for participants to understand the scope, architecture and features of data warehousing solutions, in particular those features that support more efficient data processing, validation and dissemination.
