On the occasion of the jubilee celebration, five years since the start of the Data Science Campus center, the English State Statistics Office (ONS Office for National Statistics UK), in the period July 12 - 14 2022 has organized a conference entitled "Advancing International Collaboration in Data Science and Big Data for Official Statistics". At the conference, attended by more than 50 delegates from more than 30 institutions around the world, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia was represented by Branko Josipović and Nebojša Tolić. The theme of the conference was the use of the latest tools, artificial intelligence, practical and modern solutions and new technological achievements in the field of official statistics.
During the conference, a special two-hour session devoted to rapid surveys was organized, led by the Assistant Director Branko Josipović. Two years ago, at the time of the greatest impact of the pandemic on the economy, the director of SORS, Dr Miladin Kovačević, introduced a system of rapid/ quick surveys, with the intention of fastly and efficiently assessing the most important economic indicators with the aim of monitoring the impact of the Covid pandemic in the areas of industry, construction and trade. After the initialization through the rapid survey system, more than 15 different surveys were carried out. The rapid survey system evolves over time by integrating additional tools for survey monitoring, analysis and reporting. Today, this system represents a utilitarian orientation, a system that offers service and quick information, and is in tight connection with the decision support system (DMSS) and DataStewarsheep.
The rapid survey system is recognized by the international statistical community, and for this reason, a special session dedicated to rapid survey was created. Branko Josipović led the session and presented the system that was developed in our institution, which opened up the possibility of cooperation between official statistics in this domain.
