In the Republic of Serbia, in 2023, the procedure upon criminal reports was completed for 74 504 adult perpetrators of criminal offenses, which is by 10% less than in 2022. 26 919 adult persons were convicted, which is by 3% more when compared to the previous year. In 2023, the largest number of criminal offenses for which adult persons were legally convicted concerned criminal offenses against property (23.1%), marriage and family (12.8%), and human health (20.1%). One person was sentenced to life imprisonment and three persons were sentenced to a prison sentence of 40 years, as well as to a prison sentence of 30-40 years. The prison sentence made up 27.5% of all sentences, and the conditional sentence (imprisonment) made up 43.7%.
