Under the following motto "Official statistics, a window for understanding society", the 9th European Statistics Day is being celebrated.
Statistical literacy is the ability to understand and critically evaluate statistical data that we encounter in everyday life, including the ability to make important private and business decisions. The lack of statistical literacy opens up the possibility of misinterpretation of data that citizens encounter privately, in the media, as well as in professional life.
The ability to properly understand statistical data and to distinguish between valid and misrepresented data requires certain abilities, the most important of which are mathematical and statistical skills.
At first sight, statistics seem difficult to understand.
However, in order for people to understand statistical data, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS) opened a page on the website called Statistics for Beginners in order to celebrate the European Statistics Day. The goal of this page is to facilitate the use and understanding of statistics both for pupils and students and for all those citizens who are interested in statistics.
On the Statistics for Beginners page as well as on social networks (YouTube and Instagram), SORS will publish four tutorials on the following topics (only in Serbian):
This is just the beginning, but we believe that by developing this page, we will help users to understand statistical data as well as the way of their presentation and publication.
