3-5 December 2024 Workshop on Metadata Driven Statistical Production - 2024 UNECE/SORS/CIS-STAT

In a collaborative effort, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the Commonwealth of Independent States Statistical Committee (CIS-STAT) co-hosted the impactful 2024 UNECE/SORS/CIS-STAT Workshop on Metadata Driven Statistical Production. This event took place in Belgrade from December 3rd to 5th, as part of the UNECE Regular Programme for Technical Cooperation (RPTC) for 2024. The workshop built on initiatives from the High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics and incorporated insights from Global Assessments and Sector Reviews in EECCA countries.

The workshop's main objective was to explore the significant benefits and discuss the implementation challenges of metadata-driven statistical production systems. It provided a platform for participants from various countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Moldova, Georgia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Albania, to share their experiences and insights. These representatives from national statistical offices across Eastern Europe, Caucasus, and Central Asia brought a rich diversity of perspectives to the discussions.

Participants engaged in expert presentations and interactive sessions that highlighted strategies, best practices, and real-life experiences in implementing metadata-driven systems. The dialogue focused on overcoming implementation challenges and leveraging the full potential of these systems for enhanced statistical processes.

This collaborative event not only deepened the understanding of metadata's crucial role in modern statistical production but also reinforced the professional network among statisticians dedicated to advancing statistical methodologies and practices across their respective countries.
