Development of the Decision-Making Support System at the National Level

In Vrnjačka Banja, from 8 to 12 September 2025, a workshop was held within the project “EU4SORS – Development of a Modern Statistical System.”
The workshop gathered representatives of public administration, chambers of commerce, and the academic community, with the aim of developing the Decision-Making Support System at national level.
Through a series of presentations and discussions, participants explored ways to transform statistical data into useful and timely information for decision-makers, in line with the highest European standards.

The event was opened by Acting Director of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SORS), Branko Josipović, who emphasized that the implementation of the planned project activities will transform complex statistical data into clear, useful, and timely information for decision-makers at all levels. He underlined:
“Reliable data are the foundation of a modern State and the strongest support for each of the decision-makers. Serbia is entering a new era of statistics where ministries and government bodies have access to integrated sources of data, indicators and modern analytical tools – all in one place. This system brings new possibilities to the government administration: possibility to create facts-based decisions, timely and in accordance with the highest European standards.

International cooperation is particularly significant as the system is developed within the scope of common European initiatives and is aligned with the best practices of EU member countries. The exchange of experiences and knowledge with partner statistical institutions guarantees that, through this Project, Serbia will attain and follow in many areas the statistical trends already implemented at EU level.

All interested parties – from the Government, ministries and local self-management authorities via the National Employment Service, investors and employers to the academic community, media and citizens – will have access to specifically defined indicators, the interactive web portal with maps and visualisations, as well as to training and technical support adapted to their needs. Comprehensive and structural data will be unified in one place, ready for simple use and independent analysis. This way the government administration will be provided for the first time with a tool that enables making strategic decisions based on reliable, available and timely information, with a strong support and connection with the European statistical community” pointed Mr. Josipovic.

Mister Richard Maša, First Counsellor of the EU Delegation to Serbia has said that the European Union supports continuously the development of the statistical system of Serbia:

“The European Union has been supporting for years the development of the statistical system of Serbia. Our cooperation with the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia is the example of a true partnership built on trust and joint objectives. The Office follows consistently Eurostat recommendations, implements modern methods, invest in its people and constantly improves the work quality. We are proud of the results we have achieved together so far, particularly of the fact that we are soon starting two new projects that will strengthen even more the system of national accounts and ensure a more precise insight in the situation and trends of our economy and the society.”

The goal of “EU4SORS – Development of a Modern Statistical System” is to establish a system that will support decision-making at different levels, with special focus on: labour market information analytics and the establishment of the Statistical Population Register.

Data from this system will enable:

  • state institutions to design evidence-based policies,
  • employers to identify labour market needs,
  • educational institutions to align curricula with real labour market demands,
  • citizens to make informed choices about their careers, education, and employment.

The workshop brought together representatives of all partner institutions involved in the sub-component “Decision-Making Support System at the National Level” (DMSS NL) – from state administration to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, the Chamber of Commerce of Vojvodina, and the academic community.
